The Arkenguard are the elite guard of the Lonely Mountain and are armed with mighty maces. They are armored like tanks, but their speed suffers because of this. They are deadly in close combat and can decimate troops. In addition, if paired with Packhorses from the Travel Camp they can transform into Khazad Dum Veterans, the heroic units of the Dwarven factions.

Strategy[]

The Arkenguards are one of the most powerful melee units in the game. Their ability, Dwarven War Mastery, makes them extremely dangerous. Be sure to activate it when they start fighting. If your enemy attacks with cavalry, activate this ability to prevent being trampled.

Near King Dain, they become even more dangerous, gaining increased attack and speed. Against the right armies, an army composed solely of Arkenguards can be effective. Use The Last Stand on them, and you'll have one of the most unstoppable units in the game.

However, the Arkenguards are not very effective against monsters. Trolls, Ents, or Mumakil will give them serious trouble.
