Hire a Battlewagon to serve either the Iron Hills, Erebor or Ered Luin. They are the only cavalry units available in the Dwarven realms, aside from Ram Riders. At level 2 battlewagons repair automatically over time when out of combat.
Abilities[]
Oil Barrels - Launches flaming oil barrels that explode on the battlefield.
In addition, Battlewagons get a different ability based on the realm from which they are:
Erebor: Phalanx of Erebor - The spearmen attack enemies while the Battlewagon crushes through enemy ranks, increasing its offensive power.
Iron Hills: Shieldbearer of the Iron Hills - The Shieldbearers increase the armor of the battlewagon.
Ered Luin: Archers of Ered Luin - The Archers automatically attack enemies from a distance.
Upgrades[]
All these upgrades require Battle Wagon Equipment to have been purchased:
The Battlewagon can be given ONE the following upgrades:
Banner Carrier: Nearby allies gain 15% damage and armor and become fearless. Also promotes the battlewagon to level 2. At level 2, the battle wagon heals while out of combat. In addition, this increases the garrison of the battlewagon, adding more troops to it.
Beer Keg - Adds a beer keg to the back of the battlewagon. Nearby units are healed. Also promotes the battlewagon to level 2. At level 2, the battle wagon heals while out of combat
In addition, each realm has access to one unique mechanic:
Erebor:
Wheel Blades - The wheels of the battlewagon are equipped with blades that decrease the deceleration caused by trampling by 50%. Also promotes the battlewagon to level 2. At level 2, the battlewagon heals while out of combat
Iron Hills:
Trophy - A spike of severed orc heads is mounted upon the battlewagon, demoralizing nearby enemies and lowering their damage by -20%. The debuff increases by -5% for every level up the battewagon gains. Also promotes the battlewagon to level 2. At level 2, the battlewagon heals while out of combat
Ered Luin:
Bolt Thrower - The battlewagon is equipped with a bolt thrower. The bolt thrower fires at nearby enemies alongside the archers but deals more damage. Also promotes the battlewagon to level 2. At level 2, the battlewagon heals while out of combat
Strategy[]
Battlewagons are the main cavalry unit of the Dwarves (ignoring Ram Riders which have special requirements). While Ered Luin can usually work well without them (thanks to their innate speed), Erebor and Iron Hills need the battlewagons to compensate for the slowness of their regular units. Like all cavalry, they should be used to flank enemy forces and take down archers or buildings. They are a more extreme version of regular cavalry, in that they deal more damage but are much more fragile (especially to pikes which will devastate them). To compensate for this though, they have a few methods of dealing with these threats. Oil Barrels and the Ranged Reinforcements upgrade can be used to deal with pikes from a safer distance.
