Edain Launcher1

Main Menu

The Launcher is an essential part of the mod as it allows the player to update easily the mod from a single source, downloading only the required files instead of the entire mod all over again. Once the mod is installed, a shortcut will be created on the desktop but it can also be accessed from the ROTWK folder.

The Launcher has many tabs each with it own purpose. Once you open the launcher you will see the Edain tab there you can access the other tabs, disable the mods from two different points start playing or check the news. Just right of that you can see the News tab where you can access the latest articles through a quick external link to ModDB.

Further right stands the Multiplayer tab there a multitude of options are offered to the player from accessing the Tunngle website to launching it without forgetting a link to the Rules and Discussion of multiplayer along with the Edain Online support. At the bottom left just over the FAQ you can see the number of players currently online.

Edain Launcher4

Disabled Mod Menu

If you look to the left you can see four buttons no matter what tab you are in: Play, Disable/Enable Mod, Update and Options and Tools along with the ability to allow the launcher to auto-update.

Play will allow you to start the game with or without the mod, Disable/Enable Mod allows the player...well... to Disable/Enable the mod, Update takes you to a new tab where the player can choose to search for new updates and finally Options and Tools.

Options and Tools[]

Edain Launcher6

This button takes the player to a tab where they can control the volume of the Launcher's music, change the language of the launcher, change the "Shellmap" or the background on the main menu of the game. The player can also change the resolution of the game, choose whether or not to play in windowed mode, add a replay, fix a non-starting game and choose, if they wish, to uninstall the mod.

  • The volume option purely dictates the volume at which the launcher plays its music.
  • The language option changes the mod language
  • The shellmap options changes the animation playing in the game main menu when on medium and higher graphics
  • The resolution changes your game resolution, this adds more options than are available in game
  • Windowed mode launches the game in windowed mode, this only works if you have the original disk as it requires starting the game through the launcher
  • Experimental performance boost changes around some CPU settings to improve stability. This is handy to have on as it is a sort of potential free performance boost. Only disable it if you notice degradations that did not happen before.
  • The 4GB patch increases the maximum RAM the game can use and is described in more details below

4GB Patch[]

The 4GB Patch is an option to allow you to patch the game to use additional memory, doubling the amount of RAM it can use. You can enable this in the Edain launcher in the settings. Here is a simple guide on how to do so:

  1. Click on the "Experimental 4G Patch" checkbox in the Edain Launcher settings
  2. Download the 4GB patch on the page that just opened, if nothing opened download it from this link: https://ntcore.com/?page_id=371
  3. Extract the files from the archive you just downloaded
  4. Switch back to the Edain Launcher and press okay on the prompt
  5. Select "4gb_patch.exe" that you previously extracted. Some black tabs will open, this is normal

The experimental patch is now enabled. The experimental patch makes it impossible to play online and can corrupt replays. Disable it if you want to save a replay or play online by unchecking the box.
