- "The King Under the Mountain is dead! I took his throne, I ate his people like a wolf among sheep! I kill where I wish, when I wish! My armor is iron, no blade can pierce me! "
- —Smaug
Smaug was a fire drake of the North, hailing from the dragon-infested Grey Mountains. In TA 2770, Smaug attacked the Kingdom of Erebor and drove the dwarves from their home, as well as destroying the human city of Dale. Around this time he was drawn to the power of the Dark Lord Sauron, who recruited him. He ruled the Mountain until the Company of Thorin Oakenshield tried to reclaim it, backed by the Wise who feared the potential of Sauron using Smaug to a devastating effect. In a fit of rage, the Dragon destroyed Lake-Town before being shot down by Bard the Bowman's Black Arrow.
In Edain, Smaug is a huge hero capable of slaying droves of enemies; however he struggles against individual heroes. Thankfully, if he finds himself outmatched he can always take flight to escape, or if he is level 10, he can make use of his ultimate ability to get away too.
