Warg Riders are a group of Orcs who have been specially trained to ride Wargs, the gigantic bloodthirsty race of wolves from the North, into battle, lead by Sharku. They are the only cavalry unit of Isengard faction (aside from the summonable Warg Archers) and can be recruited from the Warg Pit.
The Warg Riders have access to the following upgrades:
Banner Carrier - This upgrade can only be given to a level 1 battalion and will promote it to level 2. At level 2 the battalion can regenerate units when out of combat. Cost: 200
Heavy Armor - Increases the armor, hit points and damage resistance of the unit to ranged damage. Changes the unit's armor set to EdainCavalryHeavyArmor. Cost: 300
Forged Blades - Increases the damage of this battalion and provides a damage bonus against buildings. Cost: 300
Blood Wargs - Enables Warg Riders to train their mounts into Blood Wargs, which regenerate 20% of the damage as health when they attack. Cost: 200
The Forged Blades and Heavy Armor upgrades can be made even more effective by researching the appropriate upgrades at Isengard's unique Outpost expansion, the Steelworks.
Similarly to other cavalry, Warg Riders should be used to complete hit and run strikes on the enemy settlement buildings. Howl can be used to their advantage in this situation, allowing them to destroy the building before enemy forces arrive. The Riders can also be used to flank and trample enemy armies, weakening them before Isengard's Uruks and Wildmen can finish them off. Again, the Howl can let them fight off much stronger foes. However, Warg Riders are just as weak to pikemen as other cavalry are. If multiple battalions are being used, Sharku may be a good investment as his abilities will boost the skills of the Warg Riders.
